Getting used to the new tires as well. I'm just so surprised at how well this 2005 Suzuki DL650 has held up over 58,000 miles. I'm pretty confident with her for this trip too, but if by chance I have bike trouble... definitely satisfied I got my money's worth. If I every get any dough again to buy another bike... I'm pretty sure it'll be this exact one again. It's been pretty good to me so far.
I'm really not packed yet at all. Draggin' my feet like I always do. Why is that? It's like part of me wants to just stay home, surf the internet, go swimming, drink vino, and watch TV and movies. That's a big part by the way. But this other part of me is constantly gnawing at me... just under the skin and deep in the gut. That part is saying, "Come on you lazy bum! Get out of that comfy chair and let's go see what we can find! Nope, get away from that evil machine and let's go RIDE and LIVE!"
Was chatting with a good friend on the phone yesterday because it was her birthday and I've been trying to at least call, send an email, or wish all my friends happy birthdays whenever I remember. It's nice to at least get a little note I think, and figured maybe more people would wish ME a happy birthday if I started obliging THEM. ;-)
Anyway, I digress... she was telling me that a woman she'd met recently just went on and on about time she'd recently spent in the Four Corner area. So much so, that even though her original plan was to only stay a couple days, she ended up rearranging her entire trip so that she could spend ALL of it in that area. She mentioned "Gerome, Utah". That's it! My second recommendation. The other one is in my Discussions Area and includes some ride suggestions too. I'll be checking that area to for longer conversations and little known tips of places I should check out.
Still don't have a proper map yet, but I did pick up a couple fresh flash cards for more photo, video & audio storage... so I don't have to dump files to my laptop as frequently.
DOH! I realized BOTH my car AND my motorcycle registrations were expired by 3 months or so. And, I heard the "man" is REALLY nailin' us poor suckers if we let something expire... So, I rushed around trying to get my insurance cards, proof of this and that, hours of operation, deadlines, etc. ALL just so that I could prove that I'd given some insurance company money because their lobby bought off our representatives to make laws forcing us to carry insurance... insurance they will certainly try NOT honor in any way they can should you ever make a claim. And, giving the state taxes so that the greasy politician's hand's can stay nice and greasy, etc.
All this time and stress... paying money... standing in line... crossing my "t's" and dotting my "i's"... have you ever thought about how much time is used out of our lives on such minutia in the name of "responsibility" and paying off greedy business interests?
Makes ya angry if you think about it too much. So, I think I'll stop thinking about it and think about finding a good map instead. ;-)
Better get on with taking care of all the other minutia to deal with, like setting up my bill pay $#@! while I'm gone. Always worried I'm going to get a date wrong and the credit card companies will punish me like I'd dumped billions of gallons of oil in the gulf of Mexico. Oh wait, I forgot. You don't get punished for something like that. You only get punished if you're credit card payment gets there a day late due to a bank holiday. ;-P
I wrote a little blog post on my print site expressing the deep desire sometimes to just simply be "Away" you can read it HERE if interested.
All for now! Make sure you subscribe in the right column, and I ain't too proud to beg for donations either! I'm paying for this with dough I don't have so if you wanna chip in to keep the peep show runnin' a litle longer ;-) (there's a secure PayPal in the right sidebar), Sponsorships or if you ain't got no jack to help a boy out... just a forward of my blog to all of your friends you think might dig it.
I'm getting freakin' excited now... and nervous... I think this is gonna be fun.
